Michigan’s ban on flavored vaping products starts

PETOSKEY, Mich. (WLUC & AP) – Michigan’s ban on flavored electronic cigarettes is in effect after a state judge said she wasn’t ready to decide whether to stop it.

The owner of 906 Vapor in Houghton argued his lawsuit against Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s ban Tuesday in an Emmet County courtroom.

Marc Slis testified that flavored vaping products were the only thing that helped him quit smoking after 30 years. He said the flavored products taste better, sell better and help more people.

The State of Michigan argued that vape stores can still sell tobacco flavored products and that the governor’s ban will not cause irreparable harm to businesses.

Court of Claims Judge Cynthia Stephens denied Slis’s request, and the ban took effect at midnight. The hearing will continue Oct. 8.

Gov. Whitmer accuses e-cigarette makers of using candy flavors and deceptive ads to hook children.
